Album Review: Ethereality

by kyra bruce

Samira Winter, a.k.a. “Winter”, is back on April 6th with her sophomore album “Ethereality”. The Los Angeles based queen of dream-pop defines ethereality as “that cathartic feeling of sadness mixed with nostalgia mixed with beauty”.

The album creates a beautiful, airy, and carefree world with distorted and clean guitars working together to showcase Winter’s meaningful lyrics. The songs on the album deal with the in-between feelings college can present, friendships, boyfriends, and of course cats.

Winter is proving that she is unaffected by the “sophomore slump” some artists face. “Ethereality” is a seamless progression from her first release “Supreme Blue Dream”. She has no trouble staying true to her sound and remaining the dream-pop queen of Los Angeles!

Don’t let the name “Winter” fool you, this album is the perfect warm weather jam. The dreamy spaced out songs sound like falling asleep on the beach or roller-skating down a boardwalk. Most songs on “Ethereality” give you that summer feeling of slowly floating around a pool with the sunshine soaking you as much as the water is.

I highly recommend this album for you dream-pop shoegaze fans out there, especially if you are more than ready for warm weather! You can pre-order the album on Winter’s Pledge Music Campaign and also purchase a private living room set, a chance to hang out with Winter, or even a personal Portuguese lesson from Winter herself!

Star counting down the days until April 6th, but until then check out Winter’s past releases on Spotify, Apple Music, or Sound Cloud!
