We got the chance to sit and talk with Goody Grace before he played a sold out show with Anne Marie at The Bowery Ballroom in New York City. Check out the interview below, along with the show gallery!
How’s the tour with Anne Marie been so far?
It’s going great, I’ve done about 6 shows and I think I have 5 left. We started in LA and went up to Canada and everywhere has been super super fun- the shows have been great, her and her team have been great, it’s been one of my favorite tours I’ve ever been on.
What are you listening to at the moment?
I’m listening to a lot of this rap group called the Suicideboys and a band called Cigarettes After Sex- I pretty much only listen to them right now on tour, it’s just easy to listen to the same music *laughs* they’re two very specific vibes. One’s very dark and energetic and one’s super dreamy and chill, my moods just been a mix between those two right now.
What are you reading right now?
Honestly I haven’t read a book in a while, I used to read a lot. But I have to get back into reading.
What do you want to read?
I want to go back and read a bunch of Bukowski that I haven’t read. I’ve tried to read most of Jack Kerouac I like, and honestly I’m a comic book nerd so there’s a bunch of graphic novels I have to read.
How did your collab with G-Eazy come about?
I’ve just known him for a few years just off and on through being in LA. We’ve been trying to work for a long time. Off and on, just always seeing each other being like we need to get in we need to make music and then, a mutual friend of ours named Jesse Ack, one day before G went on tour he was just like yo you should come to his house and come hang and you guys probably will make a song… and then through that I went to his house and made the song earlier this year and it was finally good to just, you know, be friends with someone for a long time and then finally make music so yeah, I’m really really happy and excited about that.
If you could give advice to your high school self, before you dropped out, what would it be?
Just to follow what you feel. I feel like I never really overthought anything. I feel like it’s the advice I knew but I’d just reassure, you know, follow your heart like the cliche *laughs* I never really overthought anything and I just kinda did as I felt in the moment and it got me here so I think I would just tell myself to make sure not to overthink stuff.
What accomplishment are you most proud of so far?
Probably my headline shows. I spent a long time opening for a lot of people and then finally when I started playing headline shows and did my first headline tour in spring of this year, that was a really big accomplishment for me. Aside from that, my song Two Shots is approaching 30 million streams and I’ve always dreamt of that, so that’s you know, I’m really proud of that because I’ve always dreamt of going on my Spotify and seeing a bunch of streams and now I kinda have that so hopefully it just continues to grow.
Can you talk a little bit about your upcoming project and upcoming plans?
Yeah, I’ve just been working on it for a while and just perfecting it. 2019 is gonna be a lot of new music, a couple more things before the end of this year. But yeah, starting 2019 for those whole 12 months will be everything I’ve been preparing for and I feel like my first real introduction to the world.
