Our favorite dream pop songstress Hatchie stopped by 7 th St Entry this past Saturday for an intimate Minneapolis show. With support from LA-based Orchin and Chicago four piece Deeper,
Hatchie put on an excellent performance. The Australian singer/songwriter began with an electric rendition of “Try,” which came across with more energy than the delicate production in the recorded version. Hatchie continued with another song off of her stellar 2018 EP Sugar & Spice before transitioning to “Keep” and “Her Own Heart” from her debut album Keepsake.
So many of Hatchie’s lyrics have such honesty and heart, and her airy voice carries their power across the louder live production. It is an amazing auditory juxtaposition and a pleasure to hear. The crowd, enthralled from the beginning, was lulled further and further into Hatchie’s melodic environment. Every song seemed to engage more and more people. One highlight of the night was Hatchie enlisting the help of Orchin on lead guitar. His punchy and precise playing on “Unwanted Guest” was yet another incredible example of the contrast in Hatchie’s music.
Hatchie ended the night with “Stay With Me” and “Sure,” two of her knockout singles and my personal favorites. I cannot wait for Hatchie’s next release and hope that 2020 sees the announcement of another US tour.
