Temples, 2/1/20 @ 7th St Entry (Minneapolis, MN)

Temples brought their fabulous English rock to a sold-out 7th St Entry last Saturday night. The band, formed in 2012 by singer/guitarist James Bagshaw and bassist Tom Warmsley, made waves in the US with their 2017 sophomore album Volcano, and returned with a fabulous third release Hot Motion in September of last year.
Decked out in glittery, animal-print outfits and fabulous blazers, Temples took to the stage and began their set with “The Howl.” It’s distinct and heavy guitar line was a perfect intro for the night. Transitioning perfectly into “Certainty,” the first track on Volcano, the band’s momentum began to build. Many of the fans in attendance had seen the band play a multitude of times despite their limited touring appearances in the Midwest. One fan even remarked that she had traveled as far as Glastonbury in order to see them perform.
The night continued with favorites across pulled from across their discography, including older tunes off of 2014’s Sun Structures. Both “Shelter Song” and “Mesmerise,” for example, were played to conclude Temples’ set. It was a privilege to witness this band perform in a crowded, dark and intimate 250-capacity venue, and I cannot wait to see them selling out larger and larger spaces in the years to come.
Their US tour continues through the end of this week before they make their way back to the UK for another round of tour dates.
